These are two seperate renditions of what Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor thought it would be like to be the first black president. Too bad Mr. Pryor is not here to witness it because he would probably come out of retirement with the jokes this election cycle is providing. The scary part about Eddie skit is how the ending of it could really imitate life for Barack when he is elected. Now is the time to fill out Secret Service applications! do your country and favor and protect the President with your life.

Traditionally 1x4yourmind focuses on my journey through life with a hip hop soundtrack to it, but in this case I bend the rules (I mean it's my site) because of this young man that I have grown to completly ride for. Peedi Peedi a.k.a Peedi Crack (or vice versa). I have always enjoyed his verses, but I guess I never really started listening until he ripped the Get Busy track in The Roots Rising Down album. Today I watched a short video he has entitled 'Sweet Dreams' where he is yet again going at Hova (Jay-Z for the youngins) about the way he flipped flopped and set Peedi career on a path to flop as well, but Crack is not having it and will stay on Jigga "like a cheap suit". 1x4yourmind goes on record saying that we ride for Peedi Crack

Here another group from the Golden Era of Hip Hop that I really should have placed in the Where Are They Now section, but thought it would be fun to see if any of you knew them first. All I will say is that they were quickly On and then they were off (or vice versa).

The 36 Chambers album was truly a life changing project for me and everyone in my circle to say the least. The year it dropped I was active duty Air Force stationed in Altus Ok and for at least a month straight this was all we rocked in our dorms, cars, clubs and picnics. It even got so bad that cats changed there whole way of speaking up to sound like Meth always such up saliva between sentences and we didn't have gold fronts). This EPK takes me right back to those times "I smoke on the mic like smoking Joe Frasier.." and "I grew up on the crime side New York Times side, staying alive was no Jive". What other crew made the impact of The Wu? Like RZA said in the interview we were waiting on some real Hip Hop back then. It’s really funny because that statement holds true as I type this sentence so does that prove the theory of The Evolution of Hip Hop? Is it coming back around full circle? I sure hope so because everyday I wake hoping to hear a group or soloist drop a single or album that makes me feel like it’s 1994 again.
Part I
part II
Additional treat:
My man Mo over at Making The Mogul just blessed me with this rare footage of the Wu back in 1992 before The 36 dropped. It's funny how Ghost was asking "Do ya'll have rap over there?" because not too after that Europe was like their second home....funny how that works.

This video right here proves exactly why I am a opponent of these anti-sagging laws that are going around. We as young black males know this is only a "gateway" law to harass not just black males but really anyone that outwardly appears to be apart of the medias definition of "Urban/Hip Hop Culture". It is blatantly obvious that this cop was looking to harass some black kids on this particular day as evidenced by the fact of telling the other young man (off camera) that he better present some id. When was it unlawful to walk around without id? The black man (he was 18) in this video did exactly what I would have done at 18. Some my say he was asking for trouble, but I say he was standing tall and refused to let go of his dignity to some slum cop abusing his power.
Noticed that for the most part he kept his hands on the car and never in a threatening manner. The thing that triggered the cop was the fact that this kid knew his rights and was not afraid of big bad police man. I read that Officer Jeffrey S. Nation, 40 of the Aiken County Sheriff's Dept was charged with assault and battery and misconduct which subsequently lead to his firing.
Sad to say, but I expect more of these incidents to come to light (I'm sure that are tons already just not on camera) in the near future and it will not be long before there is a fatal shooting as a result of officers appearing to enforce the anti-sagging laws.

*UPDATE* Mr. Sherman is actually a 5th grader from Charles Rice Learning Center in Dallas TX
My son is in the 3rd grade this year and this is the type of kid that I want him to aligned himself with. I don't think half of this audience got his message and that's only because I have certain impression about teachers. I honestly feel the majority of them are just there to collect a check, but some of that is because they are jaded or have given up on a system that doesn't support them.
This young man Dalton Sherman is a 3rd grader and keynote speaker for a rally type event for teachers of Dallas Texas. From his opening line he had me hooked and it was a special connection because as I said before he represents my son in every way. He represent for a lot of kids who only want a chance and someone to "Believe in them". I can't help but think back to my grammar school days and remember the feeling of disregard from some teachers and thinking "they really don't care about us". On this night Mr. Sherman spoke to 20,000 teachers, but EVERY teacher in the world should listen to this young man and feel his passion for learning and longing for acceptance. He should be what you think of when you see children and because I am one he should definitely be what you see in young black children. What I took from his speech was not all kids from certain backgrounds and neighborhoods are destined to fail so don't treat us that way.
Hats off to you young man! I thinking I will get my son to learn your speech and present it to his student body. This is up there with Phenomenal Woman at least in my book.
Ladies and Gentlemen Mr. Dalton Sherman

Since nobody was able to guess the last Name That Artist I will go ahead and tell that his name is Kid Sensation (The teenage lady killer). I remember having his cassette single of "Back To Boom" that I gave to my older cousin because it sounded so great in his GMC Jimmy with two 15's in the back
On to today's NTA....This young lady hails from the West Coast and was poised to be MC Lyte icon status, but she passed away at any early age.
The crazy part about this video is the comment the young lady on the ground said "Call me when we get a black president" that was in like 1990...

So I get on the list for the Redman show at The Loft on Monday night. I am a lifelong fan of Reggie Noble, but my main objective was to promote Life The Great's show @Lenny's after that it was time to "Pick It Up, Pick It Up". So the time is about 8:30 and the venue is not een half packed and I took the opportunity to go ahead and claim my spot front and center of the stage because it was gonna be some Hip Hop in here tonight. Before I know it I'm spazzing out like it was 1994....This kid Dj Kosmos was KILLING it! I already knew he knew his hip hop because I have most of his mixes that Chronicles the golden years of Hip Hop on my Ipod, but after i thought I was gonna lose my voice and dislocate my shoulder from waving my hands out come this band of middle aged white guys......What the fuck is this? You are gonna kill the mood with these guys? Man was this was definitely one talented band from the instrumentation to the attention to detail they had it down packed. The name of the band is Connie Price and The Keystones and they are touring with Redman for the Scion sponsored event. If they are in your city and you appreciate live music especially when it's straight Hip Hop check 'em out (and it's free so hey...) Anyway I will not spoil the video, but I will say that they play some classic joints that are dead on to the original composition.
Enjoy
P.S I have footage of Redman performing with the band but the audio sync is off. If you still want to see it hit me up.

Ok here's is a case of a somewhat useful yet deceiving product with Target marketing that the old Malt liquor companies would be proud of (see Old English, candy cigarettes and countless other products sold only in the black neighborhoods). I first seen this commercial last night in the usual slot that live with the Oomp Camp would run or what the execs at UPN have labeled the "Black Hour" (note I have heard no such a thing from UPN execs so this is just my interpretation based on programming typically in the 2am slot). I am very interested to see how many people accept this belittling and generalization of black people that reduces us to Baby Mama avoiding black men who are chasing white women (sound familiar?). Is that all you could come up with? what was your budget? Who on the research team? It is time we really stand up to these companies who clearly do not know their demographics and base all marketing on perceived stereotypes and archaic marketing plans. There are so many ways that this product could work in the market place but damn at least pretend like you know your customers (or maybe you do).

Here is a nice read I found from a follower on Twitter. It's a great piece written by a fellow named Mark Kleiman where he dissects Soccer Mom's speech and adds a little reality to it.

Palin v. Reality
Posted by Mark Kleiman
Well, that was quick.
The Obama campaign is doing its job.
Now we get to see whether the media will do their job, or whether they will be cowed into submission. I'm not taking bets either way
***********************
PALIN: “Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.”
REALITY: PALIN SAID SHE WOULD BEG TO DISAGREE WITH ANY CANDIDATE WHO SAID WE CAN’T DRILL OUR WAY OUT OF OUR PROBLEM
Palin Said She Would Beg to Disagree With Candidate Who Said We Can’t Drill Our Way Out of Our Problem. Asked by Invester’s Business Daily “Some politicians and presidential candidates say we can't drill our way out of our energy problem and that drilling in ANWR will have no effect. What's your best guess of the impact on prices?” Palin responded, “I beg to disagree with any candidate who would say we can't drill our way out of our problem or that more supply won't ultimately affect prices. Of course it will affect prices. Energy being a global market, it's impossible to venture a guess on (specific) prices.” [Investor’s Business Daily, 7/11/08]
PALIN: “In fact, I told Congress -- I told Congress, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ on that bridge to nowhere.”
REALITY: PALIN WAS FOR THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE BEFORE SHE WAS AGAINST IT.
October 2006” Palin Supported Bridge To Nowhere. In 2006, Palin was asked, “Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?” She responded, “Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.” [Anchorage, 10/22/06, republished 08/29/08]
2006: Palin: Don’t Allow “Spinmeisters” To Turn Bridge To Nowhere Project “Into Something That’s So Negative.” "Part of my agenda is making sure that Southeast is heard. That your projects are important. That we go to bat for Southeast when we’re up against federal
influences that aren’t in the best interest of Southeast.' She cited the widespread negative attention focused on the Gravina Island crossing project. 'We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge and not allow the
spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative,' Palin said." [Ketchikan Daily News, 10/2/06]
REALITY: PALIN ONLY ANNOUNCED OPPOSITION TO ONE “BRIDGE TO NOWHERE,” STILL SUPPORTS THE OTHER ONE
Palin Refused to Fund Ketchikan Bridge, But Did Not Stop Funding for Knik Arm Bridge.“ Among the earmarks: $449 million for what critics have ridiculed as two ‘bridges to nowhere’ -- one in Ketchikan and one across Knik Arm in Anchorage formally named Don Young's Way. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, also a Republican, last month refused to use any more money for the Ketchikan project, redirecting it for other purposes.” [Anchorage Daily News,11/11/07]
As Recently as June, State Asking for Cost Estimate Proposals for Knik Arm. “An independent party will be called in to look at one of the most elusive aspects of a proposed bridge linking Anchorage and Mat-Su: the price tag. Gordon Keith, regional director for the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, said his office will be putting the job of estimating the cost of the controversial project out for bids in coming weeks. He said the task of coming up with a price could cost up to $200,000 and take up to 3½ months. ‘The issue keeps swirling around, so we thought it best to go ahead and do an independent estimate,’ he said. The cost to get the estimate is going to be high ‘if you want to do it correctly,’ he said. The cost of a span reaching across Knik Arm from Anchorage to Point MacKenzie has ranged over the years from $450 million to $1 billion, depending on what kind of bridge is envisioned and what starting date is plugged into the formula… Randy Ruaro, a special assistant to Gov. Sarah Palin, said the administration, even in the face of the recent lengthy report from the bridge authority, was having trouble getting an accurate picture of everything that is involved in the project, of the timing of the phases, and of the costs. He said the independent estimate is expected to answer those questions. Mary Ann Pease, spokeswoman for the authority, said she welcomes the effort to get updated costs.” [Anchorage Daily News, 6/22/08]
PALIN: “Senator McCain also promises to use the power of veto in defense of the public interest - and as a chief executive, I can assure you it works.”
REALITY: PALIN OPPOSED CRUCIAL EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE AND SENIORS FUNDING
