August 1993 - I was contemplating attending Devry University
September 1993 - I knew I had to be a man and take care of my responsibilities so I decided to follow my father's steps and join the Air Force.
January 1994 - I selected the United States Air Force and was on my way to Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX for basic training.
January 1994 - 1 week into basic training I was injured by a dumb nurse with a needle who struck a nerve and left me unable to close my hand.
January 1994 - I was sent to medical hold until I heeled which took 2 weeks, but it was fun as hell!!

January 1994 - Upon release from Medical Hold I was sent back to training picking back up on day 6 at "Alcatraz".
February 1994 - After two weeks being back in training I was recycled (demoted) back 1 week of training for smiling at an instructor.
February 1994 - After unsuccessfully trying to drop out of training finally I was in a squadron I felt comfortable with. It was led by Sgt. Stewart and some short guy whom name I can't remember.
February 1994 - Just like it has always been, me and all the brothers in my squad formed a bond and helped each other through the remaining 6 weeks or so.
March (6th) 1994 - My daughter was born
March (16th) 1994 - I graduated from basic training and now I'm off to serve my country....after training that is.

March 1994 - I'm sent to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls TX where I learn the first half of my aircraft mechanic training then off to Naval Air Station Memphis in Millington TN.
June 1994 - I graduate tech school and was off to Altus Air Force Base to serve full duty in the 97th Maintenance Squadron.

I like most young men didn't join the military with "serving my country" on my mind as a first though. It was more so out of necessity to take care of my kid and learn a trade, but in the end I was proud to serve my country and it felt great seeing planes in the air that I help get there. So if I want to thank all veterans who flew on those C5's, C-141's and KC-135's that we maintained at Altus AFB and all of those who kept them safe on the ground and in the air.
