So this morning while driving in the rain (pouring) I had my Ipod on random like it is every morning and Mos Def's "Umi Says" came on and put me in a new space mentally. This past week was really crazy for not only me, but for a lot of people in corporate America with all the “corporate restructuring” which is a fancy term for lay-offs. In my case I was able to maintain my leverage with the infrastructure of AIG and keep my position, but for about 100 others they weren’t as lucky and I feel bad for the ones that were not prepared financial for what may be to come. Thinking about all of this I realized that if I would have been “phased out” affected financially of course, but mentally I am strong like bull because the confidence that greater things are coming has overtaken any and all fears I once had over life in general.
If you don’t know by now then you should be aware that I am Hip Hop throughout my entire body. I was raised and educated by Hip Hop music and the culture. I know what to play that will intensify (or neutralize) my feelings at the time. Today 10/24/2008 (one day after my youngest son turned 9yrs old [thank you god]) I am in a positive and uplifting mood and want to pass that along to those whom may not be. I consider myself a spiritual person as oppose to religious, but I do believe I am protected by higher powers (what’s up Dad!) that what over and guide me spiritually in life and help me stay out of serious trouble. I say this to say that if you are reading this blog and your life is not where you want it to be on this day that you need to hold on and keep the faith because I truly believe that in due time you will get your time, but you have to be ready. By ready I mean you have to de clog your spirit! I say de clog instead of unclog on purpose because to me unclog means to arrange what is already there, but if you de clog, whatever is troubling is completely removed to allow room for more positive energy to embed itself.
I will not go into a sermon and get away from what I really want you to feel today. Below are two videos which I listen too quite often and most of you know them, but haven’t heard them in quite some time and for the rest this will be you first time. The first video of course is Mos Def – Umi Says followed by one of the most inspirational songs I have ever heard come out of the Hip Hop culture, It is called Due Time by Outkast ft. Cee lo. “Struggling is just a part of my day, many obstacles have been placed in my way. I know the only reason that I make it through, is because I never stopped believing in you…” – Cee lo. I have this line permanently embedded in my brain like a bible verse….a Hip Hop bible verse. Anyway enjoy the videos and I hope all is well with you.
