*UPDATE* Mr. Sherman is actually a 5th grader from Charles Rice Learning Center in Dallas TX


My son is in the 3rd grade this year and this is the type of kid that I want him to aligned himself with. I don't think half of this audience got his message and that's only because I have certain impression about teachers. I honestly feel the majority of them are just there to collect a check, but some of that is because they are jaded or have given up on a system that doesn't support them.

This young man Dalton Sherman is a 3rd grader and keynote speaker for a rally type event for teachers of Dallas Texas. From his opening line he had me hooked and it was a special connection because as I said before he represents my son in every way. He represent for a lot of kids who only want a chance and someone to "Believe in them". I can't help but think back to my grammar school days and remember the feeling of disregard from some teachers and thinking "they really don't care about us". On this night Mr. Sherman spoke to 20,000 teachers, but EVERY teacher in the world should listen to this young man and feel his passion for learning and longing for acceptance. He should be what you think of when you see children and because I am one he should definitely be what you see in young black children. What I took from his speech was not all kids from certain backgrounds and neighborhoods are destined to fail so don't treat us that way.

Hats off to you young man! I thinking I will get my son to learn your speech and present it to his student body. This is up there with Phenomenal Woman at least in my book.
