Around 1998 I was living in Lake Charles Louisiana working at Northrop Grumman where I was modifying Boeing 707 aircraft for the AWACS unit of the Air Force. It was this mid sized town where I first began my journey into the information super highway and it was with the Web-Tv. There wasn't much you could do with this device aside from email and browsing websites. It didn't have a hard drive so you couldn't download anything, but you were able to stream media back then which was all I needed for this site that played a major part in my Hip Hop life. The site I speak of was/is 88hiphop.com ran by the Pseudo Networks. To this day I can't remember how I found the site, I guess I've always had talent for browsing. Anyway with the 88hiphop site were different "radio stations" that broadcast simultaneous video and interactive chat. Of course today any and everybody can broadcast online, but this was over 10yrs ago and riding that tip of the Internet wave. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever. back to 88hiphop...they had station like Queendome, The Cool Out and my favorite of them all Beatminerz radio with Evil Dee, Mr. Walt, Cynical and another young lady whose name slips my mind. *sidenote* There is actually a recorded show out there in cyberspace somewhere that has a question from me on the air to the producer Youglord. 88hiphop.com is the reason why I am launching my on video show online in the coming weeks. 10 years later and I still find motivation from this site. The new site is....not so much. I go back every now and then, but the feeling is not the same...I digress.
About the clip. This is a clip from a show that I did not record, but I remember watching it live online. It is my man Big L along side his Harlem crew and A.G from Showbiz and A.G. In the clip he gives a brief not as in depth interview about his views on the music biz at that time (funny but the same holds true now) as well as his contribution to Harlem U.S.A. He speaks about the new records he has coming out with Herb McGruff and Cam-ron as well as one of my favorite Big L records 'Ebonics'. Like most hip hoppers I wonder what would rap be like if we still had Big L along with the other greats that passed away. Enjoy the clip and then go do your knowledge on 88hiphop.com a true pioneer in Online Hip Hop content.
Evil Dee is on the mix...come on kick it. I love that!
Big L rest in peace
